Health and Social Care

As public services are being demolished here in the UK, and the NHS is taking the brunt of cuts due to austerity measures, it is important that our Health and Social Care list reflects the ramifications of these cuts and demonstrates there is an alternative not only in the UK but globally.

We have a growing list in public health and health and social care, with a range of textbooks, monographs and policy-focused books that all aim to push forward the boundaries of teaching, theory, policy and practice. These include Health Divides, Inequality and African-American Health, The Health Debate, Dismantling the NHS?, A New Health and Care System and the Sociology of Health Professions Series.

We are actively seeking to publish work that covers areas like global health, health inequalities and research into policy and practice. If you are interested in writing for us, please see the Commissioning Editor information below.

Meet the Editor

Laura Vickers, Associate Commissioning Editor

I’ve been at Policy Press for eight years, starting as a graduate in Sociology (I used a number of Policy Press titles throughout my degree). I have had several roles in the commissioning team on the majority of the core Policy Press subject areas over the years.

I enjoy meeting existing and potential authors and talking through their research. Building those relationships over the period of time from inception of a potential book idea to publication is especially enjoyable. It is really rewarding to be able to produce books that authors and editors are proud of.
