Call for Editors

The International Journal of Care and Caring (IJCC) now in its 6th year of successful publication, wishes to appoint up to six new editors to its Editorial Team, led by Editor-in-Chief, Professor Sue Yeandle, University of Sheffield, UK.

Opportunities are available for early, mid and late career scholars with established interests and expertise in care and caring. These arise from the journal’s success to date, the increasing number of submissions received, and to replace editors as their terms of office end.

In addition to the duties of their specific role, IJCC Editorial team members also participate in the journal’s Editorial Management Board (which meets online twice a year) and are invited to the annual IJCC Editorial Advisory Board (as observers). The roles are not paid, but offer rewarding opportunities to participate in a vibrant and successful team of academics who are passionate about enabling international dialogue on care and caring. The journal is multidisciplinary, and applicants should indicate their specific areas of interest and expertise when applying. The journal’s remit, was also the focus of a co-authored Editorial Article in IJCC Vol 1 Issue 1.

We encourage applications by 30 May 2022. All applications and enquiries will be acknowledged.

The following positions are available:

Consulting Editor [North America] – this position is available for an established senior scholar with an extensive network in the USA and Canada. This is an advisory role, held from 2016 to 2022 by Joan Tronto (University of Minnesota, USA). Consulting Editors at IJCC do not have regular editorial duties, but provide ad hoc advice to the Editor-in-Chief and may undertake occasional assignments. Gabrielle Meagher (Macquarie University, Australia) is IJCC’s Consulting Editor [Australia].

Associate Editors (up to 4) – these positions are available for mid-career or senior scholars. Associate Editors are assigned papers submitted to IJCC for peer review, and take these through all stages of the review process. This includes inviting suitable peer reviewers, making recommendations to the Editor-in-Chief, and ensuring authors of accepted papers comply with the IJCC house style. Appointees will join four existing Associate Editors, located in Australia, Uruguay and the UK. Applicants from any country may apply. We are especially keen to receive applications from scholars based in Africa, Asia, Canada, Europe and in Latin America and the Caribbean. See the full call for Associate Editors

Reviews Editor (1) – this position is suitable for an early or mid-career scholar. The new Reviews Editor will work collaboratively with IJCC’s Reviews Editor based in Australia. Applicants from other parts of the world are encouraged to apply. Reviews Editors source and edit the book and conference reviews that appear in every issue of the journal. See the full call for Reviews Editor.

For all positions, fluency in written English is essential, and applicants should be willing, in principle, to undertake the role for which they apply for an initial three-year term.

IJCC’s founding Editor-in-Chief Sue Yeandle and Co-Editors Michael Fine and Yueh-Ching Chou come to the end of their terms of office in a few years’ time. The roles advertised will provide a good introduction to the journal for scholars interested in applying for one of these rewarding and prestigious roles in the future.

To apply, complete the Expression of Interest form and send this with your summary CV (max. 2 pages) to IJCC Editorial Assistant Tom Hickman (ijcc@sheffield.ac.uk).

Informal enquiries should also be sent to Tom in the first instance, who will arrange an informal discussion with the Editor-in-Chief if required.
