Bristol University Press editorial announcements

Bristol University Press, the new university press headed by Alison Shaw encompassing the Policy Press imprint, is pleased to announce new appointments that will drive the publisher’s expansion into new and emerging subject areas. At a time of unprecedented social, political and economic change Bristol University Press (BUP) and Policy Press (PP) are set to address global societal challenges now and in the future.

Stephen Wenham and Paul Stevens, both formerly of Palgrave Macmillan, will be joining BUP as of early April to lead the new commissioning in politics and international relations, and economics, business and management, respectively. Both will report into Head of Commissioning, Victoria Pittman, with indirect lines into Alison Shaw.

Stephen Wenham, joining at Publisher level, is a University of Bristol graduate himself who rose through the editorial ranks at Palgrave to lead Palgrave’s highly respected and successful politics and international relations list.

Stephen says:

'I am delighted to be joining Bristol University Press. Bristol is a beacon of creativity and openness and I look forward to working with the team to develop a publishing programme that will engage with the challenges and opportunities of today.'

Paul Stevens, who joins as Senior Commissioning Editor, led both the psychology and linguistics lists at Palgrave, and prior to Palgrave, developed his editorial talents at Pearson where he worked on leading business and management texts, and previously Cambridge University Press.

Paul says:

At a time of political and economic upheaval, there is a clear opportunity to present new ideas that will help to challenge and reshape the mainstream. I’m delighted to be joining BUP, and I look forward to working with the academic community in bringing these ideas to fellow scholars, students, practitioners and the general public.

In support of the expanded commissioning activity, BUP is also pleased to announce that Shannon Kneis and Jamie Askew recently joined as Editorial Assistants, both from Taylor and Francis, providing excellent support to a range of lists across PP and BUP imprints.

Alison Shaw says:

‘This is a wonderful moment for The Press, as we bring great publishing talent into our team to expand our subject remit and enhance our ability to serve the academic community and wider readership. I just can’t wait for us to get started!
