Celebrating our 2023 Journal Citation Metrics

We are proud to announce that Bristol University Press and Policy Press journals have achieved some of their best ever Impact Factor and CiteScore results this year.  Nine of our journals are now in the first or second quartile of rankings in their relevant categories in the 2023 Journal Citation Reports (JCR).

Highlights include:  

  • Policy & Politics achieved an Impact Factor of 4.3 and is ranked 19th out of 317 Political Science journals (Q1) and 9th out of 91 Public Administration journals (Q1) in the JCR. The journal also achieved a fantastic CiteScore of 7.9 placing in the top 5% of journals in the Sociology and Political Science category (95th percentile). 
     
  • Evidence & Policy earned an Impact Factor of 1.8 and a CiteScore of 4.5, placing it in Q2 in the Social Sciences, Interdisciplinary category in the JCR, and the 87th percentile of journals ranked in the Social Sciences (miscellaneous) category in Scopus.  
     
  • The European Journal of Politics and Gender achieved a CiteScore of 3.9, an increase of 44%. This places the journal in the 85th percentile of the Sociology and Political Science category. It earned an Impact Factor of 2.0 and now ranks 92nd out of 317 in Political Science (Q1) and 15 out of 66 in Women’s Studies (Q2) categories of the JCR.   
     
  • Global Discourse increased its Impact Factor and CiteScore to 1.8 and 4.1, respectively and is in Q2 in the International Relations, Political Science and Sociology JCR categories. The journal now sits in the top 100 Political Science and Sociology journals in Scopus (87th percentile).    
     
  • The Journal of Gender-Based Violence now has an Impact Factor of 1.7 and is ranked 37th out of 113 in the Criminology category (Q2) and 21st out of 66 in the Women’s Studies category (Q2). The journal’s CiteScore increased 47% to 2.8 putting it in the 84th percentile for the Law category in Scopus.

Bristol University Press values a range of metrics for assessing the performance of our journals, such as 5-year impact factor, Scopus Citescores and SCImago, as well as a range of article-level metrics to ensure assessment isn’t dependent on journal level figures. We closely monitor key metrics for author experience, such as editorial and production times, in addition to alternative metrics that assess real world impact, such as Altmetric.
