Sanctions and payment delays major cause of hunger: Kayleigh Garthwaite in the Guardian
In this Guardian article, out last week, Kayleigh Garthwaite reveals that sanctions and delays in payments are a major cause of hunger as discovered during research for her new book, Hunger Pains: Life inside foodbank Britain, out in June.
Trussell Trust statistics on food bank use released earlier this month reveal that the take-up of charity food aid has increased. More than 1.1 million people, including 415,866 children, received emergency food supplies in the past year. Food banks have become an ever more normalised and visible part of austerity Britain.
