Welcome to the new Co-Editors in Chief of Evidence & Policy

We are pleased to introduce the new Co-Editors in Chief of Evidence & Policy, Mariah Kornbluh, University of Oregon, US and Daniel J. Mallinson, Penn State Harrisburg, US.

Evidence & Policy is the first peer-reviewed journal dedicated to comprehensive and critical assessment of the relationship between researchers and the evidence they produce and the concerns of policy makers and practitioners.

About the Editors

Mariah Kornbluh is an Associate Professor at the University of Oregon in the Psychology Department. Her scholarship explores the role of key actors (intermediaries) in shaping and informing educational policy with attention to political context, as well as how student-led research can inform school decision-making in effective and sustainable ways.

Daniel J. Mallinson is an Associate Professor of Public Policy and Administration at Penn State Harrisburg. His scholarship examines the policymaking process, particularly through the lenses of policy diffusion and punctuated equilibrium theories and in the areas of cannabis, health, and energy/environment.

“Evidence & Policy is a leading journal in disseminating how research can inform social policy and practice across global contexts and subject matters. We have had the privilege of serving as Associate Editors for the last two years. During this time, we have reviewed cutting edge articles across disciplines and geographic spaces that systematically and empirically document efforts to disseminate research beyond the confines of academic journal pages and into policy and practice with the aim of improving the lives of others.

We seek to continue the traditions of Evidence & Policy in maintaining its place as a top journal.  We plan to operate this journal by key guiding values and aims: (1) transdisciplinary coverage of research use and evidence with implications for policy from diverse geographic contexts and communities; (2) a diversity in research approaches, epistemologies, and methodological orientations; (3) a receptivity to scholarship and dissemination for both science and communities of practice, (4) a commitment to principles of open science and transparency, (5) engagement in policy process theory and theory building, as well as (6) critical inquiry into exploring dimensions of power surrounding how and for whom research is being produced.

We are honoured to have been selected as the new co-editors of Evidence & Policy and thank Dr Zachary Neal and the Management Board for their support of our vision.

Mariah Kornbluh and Daniel J. Mallinson, incoming Co-Editors of Evidence & Policy.

We would like to thank outgoing Editor in Chief Zachary P. Neal for his hard work and dedication to the journal. During Zachary’s term, the journal has grown in popularity, reaching its highest-ever level of downloads and submissions. Throughout his term, Zachary has championed data availability and, in 2022, introduced a policy encouraging authors to publicly share their data and research materials upon publication.

Mariah Kornbluh and Daniel J. Mallinson will take over as Co-Editors in Chief after the publication of Volume 1 Issue 1. You can read Zachary’s final editorial, 'Editorial transition: introductions and farewells' on Bristol University Press Digital.
