Meet the new editors of Families, Relationships and Societies

We are pleased to introduce the new Editorial Team for Families, Relationships and Societies (FRS) led by Co-Editors in Chief Harriet Churchill, Katherine Davies and Majella Kilkey from the University of Sheffield, UK. They are supported by Co-Editors Sundari Anitha, Adam Carter, and Juile Walsh from the University of Sheffield, UK.

FRS is a vibrant social science journal advancing scholarship and debates in the field of families and relationships. It explores family life, relationships and generational issues across the life course. Bringing together a range of social science perspectives, with a strong policy and practice focus, it is also strongly informed by sociological theory and the latest methodological approaches.

“We are an interdisciplinary University of Sheffield based team whose expertise in families and relationships spans sociology, social policy, social work, childhood and youth studies, criminology, cultural studies, care studies and migration studies. We are excited to be taking on this role. FRS has grown from strength to strength and our ambition is to keep the Journal firmly on this trajectory. We will continue to develop the journal’s profile and number of high-quality submissions, ensuring FRS becomes a first-choice journal in relevant fields. We will ensure the journal maintains a reputation for developing field defining debates, including through curated Special Issues and themed sections and innovative use of the Open Space section.

We are especially committed to further internationalising the journal. We believe ‘internationalisation’ is a practice; something that we will do rather than something that we can be. In doing internationalisation, we will develop meaningful understandings of the barriers faced by researchers in various international contexts and work over time to support submissions and increase readership of scholarship from underrepresented countries. Likewise, we will work to support early career researchers, creating online resources to guide them in preparing their papers and ensuring enhanced and supportive feedback on their submissions.

We are grateful to Esther Dermott, outgoing Editor in Chief, and her team of Co-Editors, who have done such a fantastic job growing the journal and ensuring it is a primary destination for cutting edge interdisciplinary ideas about families and relationships and we are excited to continue this legacy.”

The incoming FRS Editorial Team

We at Policy Press echo the incoming team's thanks to Esther Dermott, University of Bristol, UK and her team of Co-Editors Isabella Crespi, The University of Macerata, Italy; Manik Deepak-Gopinath, Open University, UK; Sara Eldén, Lund University, Sweden; and Guanyu Jason Ran; Edinburgh Napier University, UK.

The outgoing Editorial Team have taken the journal from strength to strength. During the outgoing team’s term, the journal went from three to four issues, significantly raising the number of papers published in FRS while maintaining the journal's rigorous standards for peer review and author care. The team also oversaw growth in the journal's popularity with a large increase in article downloads and citations.
