Meet the editor: Laura Vickers-Rendall: Commissioning Editor, Ageing and Gerontology

It’s great to be joining you at the virtual British Society of Gerontology conference this year.

An ageing global population poses urgent challenges to society about which we need to raise awareness about and find solutions. Our titles on our Ageing and Gerontology list, such as Critical Questions for Ageing Societies, The Environments of Ageing and Dementia and Place, are at the forefront of these important discussions and we want to ensure that invaluable research is made accessible.

We are seeking to publish broad research that fills a clear gap in the current literature, pushing forward knowledge and re-framing perspectives. We are particularly interested in international and comparative works for our established Ageing in a Global Context series, published in association with the British Society of Gerontology.

I have been at Policy Press for over 10 years, starting as a graduate in Sociology (I used a number of Policy Press titles throughout my degree). I have had several roles in the commissioning team on the majority of the core Policy Press subject areas over the years.

I enjoy meeting existing and potential authors and talking through their research. Building those relationships over the period of time from inception of a potential book idea to publication is especially enjoyable. It is really rewarding to be able to produce books that authors and editors are proud of.
