Policy Press

Publishing with a purpose

Meet the editor: Laura Vickers-Rendall: Commissioning Editor, Health and Social Care and Ageing and Gerontology

It’s great to be joining you at the virtual Transforming Care conference this year.

As the NHS and other health systems around the world respond to a global pandemic and we also deal with an ageing population who need increasing levels of health and social care, it is more important than ever before that we raise awareness about the challenges we face and try to find solutions.

We have a growing list in gerontology, public health and social care with a range of textbooks, monographs and policy-focused books that all aim to push forward the boundaries of teaching, research, theory, policy and practice. We are currently seeking to publish broad research that fills a clear gap in the current literature, pushing forward knowledge and re-framing perspectives.

If you have an idea for a new book that fits with our approach and which you would like to discuss, please get in touch with me: Laura.Vickers@bristol.ac.uk.

Laura Vickers-Rendall, Commissioning Editor

I’ve been at Policy Press for eleven years, starting as a graduate in Sociology (I used a number of Policy Press titles throughout my degree). I have had several roles in the commissioning team on the majority of the core Policy Press subject areas over the years.

I enjoy meeting existing and potential authors and talking through their research. Building those relationships over the period of time from inception of a potential book idea to publication is especially enjoyable. It is really rewarding to be able to produce books that authors and editors are proud of.
